Ode to international women’s day, 2019

Without a shadow of a doubt, being a mother is the single most transformational thing that’s ever happened to me. The journey has stretched me more than any role before and ever since. Motherhood has required flexibility, creativity, resilience, self-awareness, self-discipline, sacrifice, maturity, humility, grace and a whole lot of grit.  Above all, it has taught me to LOVE; that uninhabited, unconditional, sticking-with-you-no-matter-what kind of love.

It is clear from my recent choice to home-educate that I value being a mum over my career. Whilst I see being a mum as a high calling, I’m well aware it is not my only calling. My heart continues to bubble over with passions, dreams and ideas well beyond my little home, which I happily stay up late for.

The thing is, putting family first doesn’t have to be an either or; it’s more of a “both and all“ situation.

So, in this period of nurturing and soul-keeping, rest in this: we are so many things because I believe we are all put here for a purpose. We are capable of things beyond our wildest imagination. Being an awesome, present mama is one of them and a very important one at that.

In the meantime, keep working alongside your children. We are also modelling what it is like to be a wholesome, content and purpose driven adult whilst holding firm to the promises and whispers of our hearts.

To all you mamas, G’mamas and would-be-mamas out there struggling to juggle work-life balance or navigate the double bind, I say hang in there. You are not alone. You are doing an awesome job and in time, you will reap what you’ve sown. Sow well in season.

Remember, you are more than what you post!
